Before we start, you need to log in. i will give you your login info and the link. change your password if you feel like it. i recommend it. to do this, log in and then click USERS then YOUR PROFILE on the left side. password is at the bottom. when you log in you will see the main page called the “dashboard”. it has some info about how many posts, recent comments, etc. to add a new post, click POSTS and ADD NEW on the left side. this is the ADD NEW POST page and is where 99% of your interaction with the back end will occur. you can customize your view with SCREEN OPTIONS on the top right. click that and UNCHECK tags, excerpt, send trackbacks, and post slug. then click screen options again. now let’s get started.

First thing’s first: put your title in all caps. Then type your shit. Up above the typing area are options for bold, italics, strikethough, etc. use those if you want, but don’t use unordered list (bullet icon), numbered list, blockquote, or any alignment but left. if you highlight a word or sentence, you can use the chainlink icon to create a hyperlink and a popup will show up. always set target to “NEW WINDOW”, title doesn’t matter. hit okay. sometimes there is another space at the end that is underlined and shouldn’t be, so highlight that space and click the broken chain icon. the next button is the MORE tag. this will insert a line break that shows up on the site as the [ MORE ] link. it will go to a page with only one article and shows the full text, if there is any. you don’t need to use this, but if your post is longer than a couple of lines you probably should, especially if there is an image you want to show.

to insert an image, click the square icon across the top. you will get the image upload popup. FIRST PLEASE NAME YOUR IMAGE SOMETHING USEFUL, like “my_balls.jpg” instead of “DSC_1001.jpg”. click select files, navigate to your image, and follow the instructions. it will upload, then show you some options. do not fill anything out. under LINK URL click the button FILE URL. CLICK CLICK THUMBNAIL or MEDIUM (doesn’t matter) and then INSERT INTO POST.

DO NOT use “add video” “add audio” “add media” as these will not work as a function of the PHP we’ve setup. don’t ask. instead, if you need to link to a song, find it on hypemachine and get the link to it. at some point in the future we will implement a music embedding shizzle, but not yet. i am also going to set up a drop box for full albums. shhhhhhh.

when you have written your post, you must choose a category. on the right side when you are posting is the categories tab. choose the relevant category. DO NOT ADD YOUR OWN CATEGORIES. don’t bother tagging your posts as the tags will not be used for anything.

last but not least!!!!! below the typing area, if you hid the correct modules, is CUSTOM FIELDS. if you did not hide the right modules it will be lower down. find custom fields and then in the pulldown select “class” and then for value put just your first name in all lower case. i.e. gabe, austin, nichole, chris, or josh.

hit the PUBLISH button and all should take care of itself, unless you or i or both has fucked something up.
