<p><a href="http://www.ourhype.com/oh/wp-content/uploads/2009/11/pixeltan.jpg"></a>Yes, yes, YES!  <a title="Pixeltan" href="http://www.myspace.com/pixeltan" target="_blank">Pixeltan</a>, the bass heavy, squealing lyric sound from New York City has finally <a title="dropped a new EP" href="http://dfa.hasawebstore.com/product/INS66492/pixeltan" target="_blank">dropped a new EP</a>, after ten long years.  I can&#8217;t even post one of their new tracks yet (not on hype machine, not even on their myspace) but by God can I order their LP, and order their LP I did-about 30 seconds after receiving notice it was out.  DFA is a label that always has some stellar offerings and Pixeltan promises to live up to this grand tradition, which, by the way, is now officially 100 albums strong.  I&#8217;ll post music as soon as I can, but honestly, Pixeltan is a band that I will blindly order.  This promises to be good, no not good, amazing.</p>
<p>11/25: updated (already): OH SHIT! after more, bordering on stalkerish, searching:<a title="Pixeltan - Yamerarena-i" href="http://www.myspace.com/dfarecords" target="_blank"> Pixeltan &#8211; Yamerarena-i</a></p>

<p>I know it&#8217;s been a while since I&#8217;ve written about <a href="http://www.myspace.com/savoyband" target="_blank">Savoy</a>, but believe me, there have been plenty of other writers and bloggers out there doing it for me. Late last month, Savoy released their debut album <a href="http://savoyband.com/" target="_blank">Automatic</a> at a sold out Fox Theater release party in Boulder. The album is insane. You can download it for free on Savoy&#8217;s <a href="http://savoyband.com/" target="_blank">website</a>. These guys are selling out shows left and right all over Colorado, and getting crazy buzz on blogs like <a href="http://hypem.com/search/savoy/1/" target="_blank">Hype Machine</a>, <a href="http://www.noiseporn.com/2009/11/12/savoy/" target="_blank">Noise Porn</a>, <a href="http://www.trashbagskids.com/" target="_blank">Trashbag Kids</a>, and <a href="http://killmecurious.blogspot.com/2009/11/savoy-automatic.html" target="_blank">Kill Me Curious</a>. I&#8217;m really excited to be doing work with these guys, and I can&#8217;t wait to see what&#8217;s in store for them next year. All I know, is they better get their asses to Seattle.</p>

<p>Cousins is the latest track to pop-up from <a href="http://vampireweekend.com" target="_blank">Vampire Weekend</a>&#8217;s upcoming release <em>Contra</em>. Foregoing the summer-island melodies of the first preview single, Horchata, this new track is fast-paced and noisy – familiar territory for fans of the first album. In fact, it feels almost like A-Punk mashed together with any number of Minutemen tracks off their seminal album <em>Double Nickels On The Dime</em>. Trust me, that&#8217;s a good thing. Listen to the track over at <a href="http://bit.ly/8MYnR" target="_blank">Hype Machine</a>.</p>

<div id="_mcePaste" style="position: absolute; left: -10000px; top: 0px; width: 1px; height: 1px; overflow-x: hidden; overflow-y: hidden;">Do you hear that sound?  Its the soundtrack to a generation of tweens losing their dry hump virginity, otherwise known as Fireflies by Owl City.  Owl City is not a ripoff of the Postal Service, as &#8216;ripoff&#8217; implies separation.  Rather Owl City is more like a deformed conjoined twin of the Postal Service, just barely surviving off the heart of his more robust brother (omg-did i just write Owl City&#8217;s next single).  Either way, to help you be fully armed to hate Owl City, here is a quiz for you (after the jump).</div>
<div id="_mcePaste" style="position: absolute; left: -10000px; top: 0px; width: 1px; height: 1px; overflow-x: hidden; overflow-y: hidden;">Which of these is not a lyric from Fireflies?</div>
<div id="_mcePaste" style="position: absolute; left: -10000px; top: 0px; width: 1px; height: 1px; overflow-x: hidden; overflow-y: hidden;">a) cause i&#8217;d get a thousand hugs/from ten thousand lightning bugs</div>
<div id="_mcePaste" style="position: absolute; left: -10000px; top: 0px; width: 1px; height: 1px; overflow-x: hidden; overflow-y: hidden;">b) a fox trot above my head/a sock hop beneath my bed</div>
<div id="_mcePaste" style="position: absolute; left: -10000px; top: 0px; width: 1px; height: 1px; overflow-x: hidden; overflow-y: hidden;">c) to ten million fireflies/i&#8217;m weird cause i hate goodbyes</div>
<div id="_mcePaste" style="position: absolute; left: -10000px; top: 0px; width: 1px; height: 1px; overflow-x: hidden; overflow-y: hidden;">d) and when i begin to dream/things aren&#8217;t what they seem</div>
<div id="_mcePaste" style="position: absolute; left: -10000px; top: 0px; width: 1px; height: 1px; overflow-x: hidden; overflow-y: hidden;">What was Adam Young&#8217;s response in a recent interview to a question discussing similarities with the Postal Service?</div>
<div id="_mcePaste" style="position: absolute; left: -10000px; top: 0px; width: 1px; height: 1px; overflow-x: hidden; overflow-y: hidden;">a) &#8220;I&#8217;m completely indebted to the Postal Service in terms of my sound, my vocal delivery, and my lyrics.  Only I&#8217;m not as good.&#8221;</div>
<div id="_mcePaste" style="position: absolute; left: -10000px; top: 0px; width: 1px; height: 1px; overflow-x: hidden; overflow-y: hidden;">b) &#8220;It&#8217;s kind of ironic, looking back at it, because a lot of people do relate the two projects.  I can totally see it now, but I didn&#8217;t really then, for what its worth&#8221;</div>
<div id="_mcePaste" style="position: absolute; left: -10000px; top: 0px; width: 1px; height: 1px; overflow-x: hidden; overflow-y: hidden;">c) &#8220;I&#8217;ve never heard the Postal Service, everyone mentions this.  I really need to get their album&#8221;</div>
<div id="_mcePaste" style="position: absolute; left: -10000px; top: 0px; width: 1px; height: 1px; overflow-x: hidden; overflow-y: hidden;">d) &#8220;I respect the Postal Service and think they did incredible things, however I truly believe that Owl City is a very separate and distinct sound.  I understand why people would like both of our work, but we really are each unique in our own way&#8221;</div>
<div id="_mcePaste" style="position: absolute; left: -10000px; top: 0px; width: 1px; height: 1px; overflow-x: hidden; overflow-y: hidden;">In a recent interview, what was the motivation behind Taylor Swift&#8217;s infatuation with Owl City?</div>
<div id="_mcePaste" style="position: absolute; left: -10000px; top: 0px; width: 1px; height: 1px; overflow-x: hidden; overflow-y: hidden;">a) She thinks owls are cute</div>
<div id="_mcePaste" style="position: absolute; left: -10000px; top: 0px; width: 1px; height: 1px; overflow-x: hidden; overflow-y: hidden;">b) His emotions are so real</div>
<div id="_mcePaste" style="position: absolute; left: -10000px; top: 0px; width: 1px; height: 1px; overflow-x: hidden; overflow-y: hidden;">c) It sounds like nothing she&#8217;s ever heard before</div>
<div id="_mcePaste" style="position: absolute; left: -10000px; top: 0px; width: 1px; height: 1px; overflow-x: hidden; overflow-y: hidden;">d) He writes the songs she always tries to write</div>
<div id="_mcePaste" style="position: absolute; left: -10000px; top: 0px; width: 1px; height: 1px; overflow-x: hidden; overflow-y: hidden;">Which of these tweets did Owl City not actually tweet?</div>
<div id="_mcePaste" style="position: absolute; left: -10000px; top: 0px; width: 1px; height: 1px; overflow-x: hidden; overflow-y: hidden;">a) &#8220;Welcome to the church of vegetables. Lettuce pray&#8221;</div>
<div id="_mcePaste" style="position: absolute; left: -10000px; top: 0px; width: 1px; height: 1px; overflow-x: hidden; overflow-y: hidden;">b) &#8220;I need you like the dragonfly&#8217;s wings need the wind&#8221;</div>
<div id="_mcePaste" style="position: absolute; left: -10000px; top: 0px; width: 1px; height: 1px; overflow-x: hidden; overflow-y: hidden;">c) &#8220;My heart starts aiken when Clay starts singing&#8221;</div>
<div id="_mcePaste" style="position: absolute; left: -10000px; top: 0px; width: 1px; height: 1px; overflow-x: hidden; overflow-y: hidden;">d) &#8220;I just did a ton of coke off the strippers ass..FFFFFFUCCKKED UPppp&#8221;d</div>
<p>Do you hear that sound?  Its the soundtrack to a generation of tweens losing their dry hump virginity, otherwise known as <a title="Fireflies by Owl City" href="http://hypem.com/#/search/owl%20city%20fireflies/1/" target="_blank">Fireflies by Owl City</a>.  Owl City is not a ripoff of the Postal Service, as &#8216;ripoff&#8217; implies separation.  Rather Owl City is more like the ramora lazily living off the lagress of its host shark, incapable of living on its own (omg!-did i just write the next hit owl city single?)  To further encourage your anti-Owl City sentiment (and seriously, are you <em>listening</em> to this song?), here&#8217;s a quiz for you (after the jump).</p>

<li>lets bike ride to the moon/float down to earth in a balloon</li>

<p>Fancy yourself an electro DJ in progress? Give it a shot with <a href="http://www.hobnox.com/index.1056.en.html" target="_blank">Audiotool</a> from HobNox. Think of this as <a href="http://lab.andre-michelle.com/tonematrix" target="_blank">ToneMatrix</a> on steroids. In fact, a fully functional ToneMatrix module is available as an instrument within the Audiotool. You start with your basic two-channel pre-amp. Then you load in other modules, many of which mimic the great tools of professional DJs. Of course, you can&#8217;t use these modules unless you wire them up, so Audiotool forces you to plug the output from one module into the pre-amp. Want more than one module? You&#8217;ll need a mixer. Want to filter your sound? Split off the audio and run it through an effects pedal. Trust me, you&#8217;ll want to play around with this. Check out a video of Audiotool in action after the break. </p>
