FURRY THINGS

wild_things_1

Coinciding with the long-awaited release of Where the Wild Things Are, Dave Eggers is pumping out a novelization of Maurice Sendak’s classic children’s book. Described as loosely based on the original, Eggers’ will undoubtedly inject his notorious style into each of the book’s 300 pages. Set to grace the shelves of bookstores this October, The Wild Things evades any concern of being an illegitimate child of Sendak’s masterpiece. Mostly because of Egger’s intense involvement in the production of the movie (read: he co-wrote the screenplay with Spike Jonze) not to mention the close relationship he’s cultivated with Sendak since starting the project.

Oh, and you can get it with fur, too.

necklace1

After drooling over photos of the unreleased Cool Cats necklace for weeks, it is finally here. I had been obsessing over the photos posted by Busy P and So Me on Le Cool Cats Blog and told myself as soon as it arrives I must have it. But then I saw the price tag. 85,00 € for the limited edition of 75, handmade, one of a kind cat charm and 30 inch chain.

GOODBYE TO YEEZY
BRAD » 06.09.09 10:42AM

air_yeezy_zen-grey_large

Now that all is said and done, it’s become apparent that the Nike Air Yeezy (the last colorway of which was released this past weekend) was the only sneaker Kanye West could have possibly designed. After all, the Yeezy is as polarizing as West himself, with an aesthetic that borrows equal inspiration from both 1988 and 2088. But whether you find them to be fantastic, hideous, or simply too… Kanye, their impact upon sneaker culture is undeniable.

And I still want a pair.

TWEET ON YOUR FACE
AUSTIN » 06.08.09 06:28PM

tweet_threadless

In a desperate attempt to regain cultural relevance, Threadless has attached itself to the wavering pulse of twitter. The result is a handful of t-shirts with illustrated tweets that are “clever”. Most follow the hackneyed Threadless formula and strike out on various levels. The latest addition to the collection, however, is sort of worthwhile. While I would never don this salacious bit of tweetage, I imagine there to be a great number of tweeters that would.

SO, THE FRENCH LOVE IT

Remember the oh-so-awesome Cap-Sac? Well, just a little update, it’s kicking so much ass. Jessica has been selling these bad boys non-stop and has had some amazing internet coverage. Don’t get me wrong though, there are some Cap-Sac haters out there, but there are just as many, if not more, who are passionate about the Cap-Sac. Blogs like Coolhunting, College Humor, Geekologie, Swiss-miss, Trendhunter, Buzzfeed, and Seattle’s The Stranger with their interactive blog, are just a few who have been showing the Cap-Sac some blog love.

WHO DOESN’T LIKE BOOBS?
SARAH » 05.31.09 11:41AM

boobcrochet

The answer? No one. Everyone likes boobs. If Nichole can admit it, I can too. And that is why I’d like to share with you these lovely crocheted boobs. I am enamored with Shannon Gerard’s work. In addition to boobs, there are dinks (Dinks! Who calls them that?), adorably twee little crocheted cacti, vagina finger puppets, and more. I especially like the plushstaches (for the less-than-hirsute gentlemen).

But these boobs and dinks aren’t just for giggles. They come packaged as “early detection kits” and come with a booklet with instructions on how to conduct monthly self-exams. As Gerard puts it, “Using the softness and humour of these early detection kits, I hope to eliminate some of the fear surrounding monthly exams and encourage people to check themselves often.” Also, $5 from each kit purchased is donated to this cancer recovery initiative

We love boobs! Also, vagina finger puppets. Tee hee.

PERFECT IF YOU LIVE ANYWHERE BUT THE SAHARA OR ANTARCTICA

il_mostro

Puma’s sponsorship of the yacht Il Mostro has been great for me and great for my closet.  But their sailing line’s outerwear is a cut above the rest.  They’re sleek, great for going out in, and light, so you don’t need to take it off once you’re there.  They’re also wind and waterproof (it is an ocean ware) so its perfect for those in-between seasons which make up the majority of the year.  I’m a huge fan of the incredibly versatile Sailing Bonded Jacket, which is a super soft neoprene that will get you felt up all night.

DIRTY LAUNDRY

Underwear is a big deal. Functioning as a mediator between your naughty bits and the outside world, it’s difficult to make a strong argument against underwear. Especially when it’s super fancy underwear like that of Hatsumi’s Laundry. Made by hand from some of the finest materials Australia has to offer, there’s little doubt that you’ll be disappointed by the performance of these undergarments. And they look pretty attractive, too.

PRETTY AWESOME I GUESS

I’m fighting the urge to say it, because I know everyone else is saying it. And if they’re not saying it, they’re thinking it.

These notebooks are great. Formatted like slices of toast and bagged together to complete the effect, they come in packs of twelve books, numbered 1-12 for easy cataloging, or for monthly use, or for some other reason. I don’t cut through notebooks nearly fast enough to warrant a pack of twelve, but I know some of you that do. The collector’s appeal might just be enough to seal the deal for me, though.

BACK FROM THE GRAVE

threadless1

Sometime in 2006 (whether this was before or after it got cool is not something I give a shit about) Threadless arrived at tda. Crates and crates of trendy, tongue in cheek graphics printed on shirts of varying quality poured into our office by the truckload. Then, as with all things, the site community became too homogenous and the shirts began to blur together like Jennifer Connelly and that unknown actress at the end of Requiem for a Dream. Threadless died.

Then, in 2008, Threadless turned their Select Series over to UPSO, the minds behind Faesthetic. Since the turnover, the selection has grown to include tees from Print Liberation, McBess, Nick Gazin, and Mike Perry.
