This is why categories like ‘etc’ were invented. A Jewish Mutha is a collection of actual voicemails from a very Jewish Mutha. How do you categorize this? Certainly not art, certainly not music, but most certainly good. I recommend starting with ‘The Recipe’, ‘The Wires’, and my favorite ‘The Pea Pods’ to get a feel for what it could be like to be born of the chosen people.
So I recently made plans to get out of Denver for a weekend and head to Santa Fe, no reason really, just need to see some friends and need to get out of the Mile Hi City. What’s nice is that weekend just so happens to be the Santa Fe film festival, where Scream parody ‘Stupid Teenagers Must Die’ is playing. It looks hilarious. Check the vid after the jump.

Have you ever wanted to record your friends as they go off on a drunk and/or high rant. Its always in retrospect, no one ever anticipates a great rant. Well, no one except for Dan Deacon’s friends who decided one day to lock him in a closet while high on LSD, where he proceeded to go off on seahorses, balloon hands, and Captain Knots. Its solid. Dan Deacon is also coming to one of the coolest venues in Denver, Rhinoceropolis, on 10/27, which promises to be a very sweaty and loud show. Video after the jump.
I’m not big into video games, and I especially shy away from games like Guitar Hero that involve fake instruments. Something about a guitar-shaped controller just kind of irks me. I am, however, way into Daft Punk, which is why I have some serious mixed feelings about Activision’s new DJ Hero, due out October 27th. The very existence of this game was bound to happen, but what surprised me is the inclusion of Daft Punk in the game and the promotion.
If you think nothing can top Hot Chicks with Dogs with Boners, you’re ever so slightly mistaken. I present to you, Hot Chicks at Art Openings. Apparently they were around first, before all the “Hot Chicks with n” sites started popping up, but I don’t care much for that. I’m here for the art.
In what might very well be the most indie union of all-time, Zooey Deschanel has wed Ben Gibbard. While this can be misconstrued as a happy day for all the little kiddies of indiedom, I can assure you it is most definitely not. Maybe it’s because I’m selfish and want to keep Zooey to myself (as I’m sure all the other hipster-douches of the world do). Maybe it’s because deep down, all I really want is to hear Zooey rehearse an augmented version of the “Fabric of our Lives” song in which she playfully inserts my name in the place of “cotton” (“The touch, the feel of…”). In all honesty, though, I think what really irks me about this–the biggest indie-merger ever–is the fact that Ben-follow-me-into-the-dark-Gibbard’s alarm clock is now the ever-so-sweet voice of Zooey-fucking-Deschanel singing in the shower. While I’m fairly certain girls like Lisa Mitchell aren’t piddling around laundromats asking for spare change, I’d like to suspend all disbelief–at least for a few, fantasy-laced moments. Mostly because of her inherently irresistible mannerisms. And the way her pursed lips give way just enough to allow words to form.
Born in England and raised in Australia, Mitchell makes me want to do some laundry. Lots and lots of laundry.
This is old, but I don’t know if my fragile mind could have handled this a couple years ago. Internet memes are usually pretty weird, but this one takes the cake.

What is it with this number? We have District 9, I just saw a preview for ‘nine’ and now ’9′. The latest effort by Tim Burton brings along a friend, Shane Acker, to help whit concept and animation. Here is the original video short, where Shane Acker introduces the viewer to the rag-doll character and other defining elements of this world. If this is something you’re interested in then you’re in luck, ’9′ comes out today on 9/9/09 and is playing in a theater near you.
I don’t know much about Lithuania aside from the fact that Ilona Kuodiene calls it home. And by the looks she gives from beneath her curly, carefully-matted coif, it makes me wonder what other secrets the Baltic states might be harboring. I can only hope they’re perfectly-distributed-just-below-the-eyes-over-the-nose-freckled secrets that run rampant along the sea shore wearing two-piece swimsuits while carrying umbrellas.
But if not, there’s still Illona.
