I grew up on games. While I’m always excited for what modern consoles are capable of, I’ll always have a soft spot in my heart for the colorful 2D sprites of the 8-bit and 16-bit generations. Early Playstation games are often too muddy and horrible looking to play these days, even with the nostalgia factor, but it’s easy to go back to the creativity and color of games like The Legend of Zelda on NES, Sonic and Gunstar Heroes for Genesis, and Mario World and Megaman X for SNES.
That said, I can’t help but wonder what it would be like to play all of my favorite old-school games after a facelift from deviantART’s Orioto. He’s taken a bunch of classics and repainted them with a twist. These new directions seem like great angles to take for value-priced downloadable releases for PlaystationNetwork or XBOX Live. Heck, if you gave me a rehash of Castlevania X with a fresh, hand-done coat of oil-paint on it I’d pay full price!
